Fire from Yemen: When Hadith Is Read Alongside Reality

September 19, 2026By SIHULK6 min read

The Prophet ﷺ spoke about one of the major signs before the coming of al-Sā‘ah:

وَآخِرُ ذَلِكَ نَارٌ تَخْرُجُ مِنَ الْيَمَنِ تَطْرُدُ النَّاسَ إِلَى مَحْشَرِهِمْ

“And the last of these is a fire that will emerge from Yemen, driving people towards their place of gathering.”

This Hadith is narrated in Sahih Muslim, no. 2901, from Hudhayfah ibn Asid al-Ghifari RA. Another narration mentions that the fire will emerge from قُعْرَةِ عَدَنٍ — the region of ‘Adan. ([dorar.net](https://dorar.net/) )

This Hadith should not be read like an old newspaper — as though human beings merely need to wait for the land of Yemen to suddenly catch fire one day.

Pay attention to its words:

نَارٌ — fire.

تَخْرُجُ — emerges.

مِنَ الْيَمَنِ — from Yemen.

The Hadith does not say:

“Yemen will burn.”

Instead, it says:

“Fire emerges FROM Yemen.”

This is a significant difference.

FIRE HAS A POINT OF ORIGIN

When something emerges from a place, what is being indicated is its origin or source.

Today, human beings no longer wage war using only swords and spears. Fire can travel hundreds of kilometres through ballistic missiles, drones, rockets and explosives.

Therefore, when read in the context of modern reality, the expression “fire emerges from Yemen” could conceivably describe weapons carrying fire that are launched from Yemeni territory.

And at this very moment, something of that nature is taking place.

On 15 September 2026, Arab News reported that the Houthi group from Yemen attacked areas in Saudi Arabia using ballistic missiles and drones. The reported targets included Khamis Mushait, Abha and Taif. The attacks injured 13 civilians and damaged homes and vehicles. (Arab News)

Therefore, the reality that can currently be verified is:

YEMEN → MISSILES/DRONES → SAUDI ARABIA → EXPLOSIONS/FIRE.

This is no longer a technologically impossible scenario.

THEN THE HADITH MENTIONS HUMAN BEINGS

The Hadith does not stop at:

نَارٌ تَخْرُجُ مِنَ الْيَمَنِ

It continues:

تَطْرُدُ النَّاسَ

The word تَطْرُدُ — taṭrudu — carries the meaning of driving away, expelling or forcing people to move.

Pay attention once again.

The focus is not merely on the fire itself.

The fire has an effect on the movement of human beings.

When missiles and drones approach populated areas, their effects are not limited to explosions. They generate emergency alerts, evacuations, area closures, changes to travel arrangements and fear that influences the movement of the public.

On 15 September 2026, Saudi Civil Defense issued warnings for several areas, including:

Abha, Jeddah, Jazan, Taif, Yanbu, Makkah and AlUla. (Arab News)

This is where the reading of the Hadith becomes increasingly interesting.

MAKKAH IS NOW WITHIN THE AREA COVERED BY THE WARNINGS

Makkah is not an ordinary city.

Makkah is a place where human beings already gather.

People come from the east.

People come from the west.

People come from the north.

People come from the south.

They come to perform Hajj and Umrah.

Indeed, the Prophet ﷺ himself established the miqat according to the directions from which people arrived: for the people of Madinah, al-Sham, Najd and Yemen, with Yalamlam designated as the miqat for the people of Yemen travelling to perform Hajj and Umrah. (Sunnah)

Therefore, in the reality of the world:

Makkah is one of the most recognisable gathering places for humanity on earth.

And now, the name of Makkah itself has been included in the security warning system following attacks originating from the Houthis in Yemen. (Arab News)

مَحْشَرِهِمْ DOES NOT NECESSARILY MEAN THE PLAIN OF MAHSHAR AFTER DEATH

The next expression is:

إِلَى مَحْشَرِهِمْ

إِلَى = towards.

مَحْشَر = a place of gathering.

هِمْ = their.

Therefore:

“Towards their place of gathering.”

The Hadith itself begins with:

إِنَّهَا لَنْ تَقُومَ حَتَّى تَرَوْا قَبْلَهَا عَشْرَ آيَاتٍ

Al-Sā‘ah will not occur until human beings have seen ten signs before it.

This means that the event of the fire from Yemen is mentioned as a sign before the coming of al-Sā‘ah. (Wikisource)

Therefore, مَحْشَرِهِمْ does not necessarily have to be immediately imagined as referring to human beings who have already been resurrected from their graves and are standing on the Plain of Mahshar in the Hereafter.

This event still takes place within the framework of human life before al-Sā‘ah.

The question that should therefore be asked is:

Where do living human beings from every corner of the earth already gather in a visible and tangible way?

An answer that cannot be overlooked is:

MAKKAH.

DO NOT READ HADITH THROUGH THE IMAGERY OF A BYGONE ERA

A major mistake is to read an ancient text through the technology of the past.

If the Prophet ﷺ mentions fire, people immediately imagine a bonfire or the land itself burning.

Yet the nature of fire does not change merely because the means by which it is delivered have changed.

Missiles carry fire.

Rockets carry fire.

Armed drones carry fire.

Explosives produce fire.

Therefore, when the Hadith says:

نَارٌ تَخْرُجُ مِنَ الْيَمَنِ

we do not necessarily have to imagine the land of Yemen itself burning.

What matters is:

something of the nature of fire emerges from Yemen.

And that phenomenon can now be physically observed in the form of missile and drone attacks from Yemen towards Saudi Arabia.

THE SEQUENCE OF THE HADITH AND REALITY

Now place the two side by side:

Hadith:

نَارٌ

Fire.

Reality:

Missiles, drones, explosions and fires.

⸻

Hadith:

تَخْرُجُ مِنَ الْيَمَنِ

Emerges from Yemen.

Reality:

Attacks are launched by the Houthis, who are based in Yemen, towards Saudi Arabia. (Arab News)

⸻

Hadith:

تَطْرُدُ النَّاسَ

Drives people away.

Reality:

The attacks cause emergency warnings to be issued to residents of several Saudi cities.

⸻

Hadith:

إِلَى مَحْشَرِهِمْ

Towards their place of gathering.

A reality that deserves attention:

Makkah is an international gathering centre for people performing Hajj and Umrah, and Makkah itself is now among the cities that have received security warnings. (Arab News)

NOT WAITING FOR A MYSTERIOUS FIRE

Perhaps all this time, human beings have been waiting for an extraordinary scene:

the earth splits open,

then a gigantic fire emerges,

then the fire grows legs,

then the fire physically chases human beings.

But the revealed text does not say all of that.

It only provides the framework:

FIRE → EMERGES FROM YEMEN → DRIVES PEOPLE AWAY → TOWARDS A PLACE OF GATHERING.

Human technology today demonstrates how such a sequence could occur in reality without having to change a single word of the Hadith.

Missiles can carry fire.

Drones can carry fire.

Warning systems can cause people to move.

Warfare can alter the routes people take.

And centres where human beings gather already exist.

CONCLUSION

We do not need to add words that the Prophet ﷺ did not say.

The Hadith does not say that Yemen will burn.

It says:

FIRE EMERGES FROM YEMEN.

The Hadith does not say that this event takes place after the resurrection of humanity.

It places the event among the signs before al-Sā‘ah.

The Hadith does not say that the fire is merely something to be observed.

It says that the fire has an effect:

تَطْرُدُ النَّاسَ

It drives people away.

And the destination mentioned is:

مَحْشَرِهِمْ

their place of gathering.

Today, 15–16 September 2026, the world is witnessing missile and drone attacks from Yemen against Saudi Arabia; Taif has been among the areas attacked, and Makkah itself has been included in Saudi security warnings. (Arab News)

Could this ultimately be the precise event referred to in the Hadith?

That is an interpretive conclusion that can only be established when the entire sequence described in the Hadith, particularly the movement of people towards مَحْشَرِهِمْ, truly becomes apparent.

But one thing can no longer be dismissed as impossible:

“Fire emerges from Yemen” now has a form in reality that can be seen with the eyes.

Do not merely read the Hadith.

Look at what the Hadith tells human beings to observe.

إِنَّهَا لَنْ تَقُومَ حَتَّى تَرَوْا قَبْلَهَا عَشْرَ آيَاتٍ

“Indeed, it will not occur until you have seen ten signs before it.”
