Chapter 5 — Qalb: The Data Processing Centre of the Self

The previous chapter showed that:
RUH carries the flow.
ANGELS operate the network.
THE SENSES receive input.
But human beings are not cameras that merely record.
Human beings:
see,
hear,
feel,
evaluate,
choose,
and then act.
The question is:
WHERE DOES THAT DATA BECOME MEANING?
The answer brings us to:
QALB
Allah says:
“Have they not travelled through the earth so that they may have qalb with which they understand, or ears with which they hear?”
— Al-Hajj 22:46
Notice:
EARS → HEAR
but:
QALB → UNDERSTANDS
Hearing does not necessarily mean understanding.
Seeing does not necessarily mean knowing.
Data must be processed.
⸻
1. QALB IS NOT MERELY A BLOOD PUMP
The Quran connects the qalb with:
understanding,
certainty,
doubt,
fear,
tranquillity,
hardness,
sickness,
faith.
Therefore, when the qalb is mentioned, do not stop at the organ that pumps blood.
The qalb is THE FIELD IN WHICH MEANING IS PROCESSED WITHIN THE HUMAN SELF.
In the technological analogy:
SENSES = INPUT DEVICE
QALB = PROCESSOR
ATTRIBUTES = CONFIGURATION
AF‘AL = OUTPUT
⸻
2. DATA ENTERS THROUGH THE SENSES
A person sees an event.
The eyes transmit data.
A person hears something.
The ears transmit data.
But the eyes and ears do not yet determine its meaning.
For example:
two people witness the same event.
One becomes afraid.
One remains calm.
One becomes angry.
One understands.
THE INPUT IS THE SAME.
But the output is different.
Why?
Because the data passes through DIFFERENT PROFILES AND DIFFERENT QALB PROCESSING.
⸻
3. JIBRIL BRINGS THE DETERMINING DATA
Allah says:
“Indeed, he brought it down upon your qalb by the permission of Allah.”
— Al-Baqarah 2:97
Why is the qalb mentioned?
Because truth does not stop at the ears.
It must reach the centre of understanding.
Therefore, within our arrangement:
JIBRIL → TRUTH → QALB
When true facts reach the qalb, old data can be reassessed.
Assumptions can collapse.
Fear can change.
Questions can be answered.
The profile can be updated.
That is why:
TRUTH IS THE MOST POWERFUL DATA.
⸻
4. THE QALB CAN ACCEPT OR REJECT
The problem with human beings is not always a lack of data.
Sometimes the data has already arrived.
But the qalb rejects it.
Allah says:
“Indeed, it is not the eyes that become blind, but it is the qalb within the chests that becomes blind.”
— Al-Hajj 22:46
The eyes can still see.
The ears can still hear.
But the meaning is not accepted.
It is like:
NETWORK CONNECTED
but:
DATA REJECTED.
⸻
5. REPEATED DATA FORMS ATTRIBUTES
A single experience does not necessarily become an attribute.
But when something is:
accepted,
believed,
repeated,
defended,
practised,
it begins to become part of the configuration of the self.
For example:
a person lies once.
That is an action.
If lying continues to be accepted and repeated, it forms an attribute.
Eventually:
DATA → CHOICE → REPETITION → ATTRIBUTE
The attribute then produces subsequent actions.
Thus, a cycle is formed:
DATA → QALB → ATTRIBUTE → AF‘AL → EXPERIENCE → NEW DATA
⸻
6. THE QALB CAN BECOME SICK
Allah says:
“In their qalb is a sickness, and Allah increases their sickness.”
— Al-Baqarah 2:10
Sickness of the qalb affects the way data is processed.
True data can be regarded as false.
False data can be regarded as true.
Advice can be perceived as an attack.
Deception can be perceived as safety.
Therefore, the greatest corruption does not necessarily occur in the input.
It can occur in THE WAY THE INPUT IS INTERPRETED.
⸻
7. THE QALB CAN BECOME TRANQUIL
Allah says:
“Indeed, through the remembrance of Allah, the qalb becomes tranquil.”
— Ar-Ra‘d 13:28
When data has been placed in its proper position:
conflict decreases.
assumptions decrease.
questions receive answers.
fears receive explanations.
The qalb becomes stable.
In the language of the system:
DATA + TRUTH = STABILITY
⸻
8. MUNKAR AND NAKIR BEGIN WITH QUESTIONS
Human beings are constantly asking themselves:
Is this true?
Why?
Who?
What is really happening?
Where am I going?
What am I doing?
If a question has no answer, the conflict continues to exist.
Within our mapping:
MUNKAR = QUESTIONING
NAKIR = PRESSURE CAUSED BY UNANSWERED QUESTIONS
Therefore, knowledge and truth are not merely decorations.
They resolve conflict within the self.
⸻
9. MALIK OR RIDWAN
When data is processed, it produces a state within the self.
If conflict, fear and regret take control:
MALIK → TORMENT
If truth, resolution and tranquillity take control:
RIDWAN → BLISS
Therefore, this balance can already be witnessed within the self:
THE SAME DATA CAN BRING TORMENT OR BLISS DEPENDING ON WHAT IS FORMED WITHIN THE QALB.
⸻
10. THE PROFILE OF THE SELF IS FORMED THROUGH AF‘AL
What is within the qalb eventually emerges through actions.
Allah says:
“Everyone acts according to their own state/disposition.”
— Al-Isrā’ 17:84
Therefore, actions are a display of the internal configuration.
Just as an application displays what is being run by the system.
QALB → ATTRIBUTES → AF‘AL
Af‘al then produce new experiences.
Those experiences return as data.
The cycle continues throughout life.
⸻
11. THAT IS WHY THE PROFILE CAN BE CHANGED
As long as the streaming continues:
UPDATES CAN STILL BE MADE.
Mistakes can be corrected.
Assumptions can be replaced with certainty.
Hatred can be released through forgiveness.
Ignorance can be replaced with knowledge.
Questions can receive answers.
Attributes can change.
Af‘al can change.
Therefore, life is an opportunity to UPDATE THE PROFILE BEFORE THE FINAL SYNC.
⸻
SUMMARY OF CHAPTER 5
The entire system is now becoming clearer:

Then new data enters again.
The cycle continues until the FINAL SYNC.
Therefore, human beings are not defined by how much data enters through their eyes and ears.
The more important question is:
WHAT DOES THE QALB DO WITH THAT DATA?
Because ultimately:
WHAT THE QALB ACCEPTS
SHAPES THE ATTRIBUTES.
WHAT BECOMES AN ATTRIBUTE
WILL BE MANIFESTED AS AF‘AL.
And this entire journey is what forms:
THE PROFILE OF THE SELF.
