Dabbah Within the Self — The Sign That Becomes Manifest After the Transition Between Realms

Many people wait for Dabbah al-Ard as a strange creature that will emerge from the earth.
But the Quran gives a much closer indication:
وَفِي أَنفُسِكُمْ أَفَلَا تُبْصِرُونَ
“And within yourselves. Will you not then see?”
— Az-Zariyat 51:21
Therefore, Dabbah can also be read within the smaller earth — the human self.
DABBAH “FROM THE EARTH”
Allah says:
“When the decree falls upon them, We will bring forth for them a Dabbah from the earth that will speak to them, because humanity had no certainty in Our signs.”
— An-Naml 27:82
Three things are extremely important:
دَابَّةً — Dabbah
مِنَ الْأَرْضِ — from the earth
تُكَلِّمُهُمْ — speaks to them
Within the reading of the self, the “earth” is the human body itself.
Dabbah does not necessarily have to be imagined as a monster emerging from a hole in the ground.
It can be read as something that emerges and becomes manifest from within the bodily system, until the body itself “speaks” through changes, effects and conditions that can no longer be denied.
THE GENOME AS A LANGUAGE WITHIN THE SELF
Modern human beings are already capable of reading and using genomic information.
DNA uses the codes A, T, C and G, while genetic technologies can use biological instructions to produce particular functions within cells.
Within the symbolic reading of this project, Dabbah is associated with biological changes or structures operating from within the body.
But the revealed texts do not say that Dabbah is literally the genome, nor does science prove that the genome causes human beings to remain alive forever or to “never die”.
What we are reading is the pattern:
SOMETHING ENTERS OR CHANGES → THE BODY’S SYSTEM READS IT → ITS EFFECTS EMERGE FROM WITHIN → THE BODY ITSELF BECOMES A WITNESS.
WHEN IT HAS ALREADY HAPPENED WITHIN THE SELF
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Three things, when they emerge, a person’s faith will no longer benefit them if they had not believed before…”
“The rising of the sun from the west, Dajjal and Dabbah al-Ard.”
— Sahih Muslim 158
Notice the wording:
Faith will no longer benefit a nafs — a self.
Within our reading, once the sign has already occurred within the self, the person is no longer merely hearing about it.
They have experienced and witnessed it.
DABBAH AND THE SUN RISING FROM THE WEST
The hadith of Abdullah bin ‘Amr رضي الله عنه states:
إِنَّ أَوَّلَ الْآيَاتِ خُرُوجًا طُلُوعُ الشَّمْسِ مِنْ مَغْرِبِهَا وَخُرُوجُ الدَّابَّةِ عَلَى النَّاسِ ضُحًى
“Among the first signs to emerge are the rising of the sun from the west and the emergence of Dabbah before the people at Dhuha.”
— Sahih Muslim 2941
Then:
“The other will follow shortly afterwards.”
Linguistically, Dhuha is the morning period after the sun has risen and climbed higher, not after sunset.
But within our symbolic reading, the sequence is particularly interesting:
the sun of the self reaches its maghrib → the worldly realm ends → a transition between realms takes place → it “rises” in the next realm → the condition becomes illuminated like Dhuha → Dabbah becomes manifest.
Therefore, we read “the sun rising from the west” as a transition between realms, rather than merely an astronomical phenomenon.
WHEN EVERYTHING HAS ALREADY BEEN UNVEILED
Al-An‘am 6:158 states:
“On the day when some of the signs of your Lord come, a person’s faith will no longer benefit them if they had not believed before.”
Before that, human beings are asked to believe.
After the sign has been seen and experienced, it is no longer a matter of the unseen for that person.
This is the terrifying point:
THE PERSON ALREADY KNOWS.
THE PERSON HAS ALREADY SEEN.
THE PERSON HAS ALREADY FELT.
But the time for making the same choices that were available before has already passed.
“STILL” AFTER THE TRANSITION
Within the reading of this project, death does not mean that everything disappears.
It is a transition between realms.
From:
WORLDLY REALM → BARZAKH REALM.
Therefore, the human being still continues the journey, but in a different state.
If, while in the world, a person carried the consequences of their choices within themselves, then those consequences become part of their witnessing of what they have done.
Not because the genome makes human beings immortal.
But because the human journey does not end when the worldly realm comes to an end.
THE FORMULA OF DABBAH WITHIN THE SELF
27:82
Dabbah emerges from the earth
→ read through the smaller earth: the body.
Dabbah “speaks”
→ the body itself reveals what is taking place.
Muslim 158
When the signs have already emerged, newly acquired faith no longer benefits
→ the sign has already become an experience of the self.
Muslim 2941
Dabbah is closely connected in sequence with the sun rising from the west
→ within our reading: closely connected with the transition between realms.
Al-An‘am 6:158
When the sign has already arrived, the human being has entered into witnessing.
Therefore, do not merely wait for Dabbah to emerge from a hole in the ground.
The closer question is:
HAS DABBAH ALREADY BEGUN TO “SPEAK” THROUGH THE NEAREST EARTH — THE HUMAN SELF ITSELF?
And by the time a person finally realises it, perhaps they are already standing at the boundary between the realm they are leaving behind and the realm they are entering.
