Chapter 6 — Life: The Period for Updating the Profile

After understanding that:

THE SENSES receive data

THE QALB processes meaning

ATTRIBUTES are formed

AF‘AL manifest the state of the self

the next question is:

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE PERIOD OF LIFE GIVEN TO HUMAN BEINGS?

The answer is:

TO FORM AND UPDATE THE PROFILE OF THE SELF.

As long as a person is alive, the profile is not yet final.

There is still time to learn.

There is still time to change.

There is still time to correct mistakes.

There is still time to forgive.

There is still time to choose again.

There is still time to replace assumptions with certainty.

Therefore:

LIFE = THE UPDATE PERIOD.

1. HUMAN BEINGS ARE CONSTANTLY CHANGING

Allah says:

إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُغَيِّرُ مَا بِقَوْمٍ حَتَّىٰ يُغَيِّرُوا مَا بِأَنفُسِهِمْ

“Indeed, Allah does not change what is within a people until they change what is within themselves.”

— Ar-Ra‘d 13:11

This verse shows that change begins with:

مَا بِأَنفُسِهِمْ — what is within themselves.

Therefore, human beings are not profiles that have been locked since birth.

The profile can change.

2. EVERY CHOICE IS AN UPDATE

Human beings receive data.

Then they choose.

Allah says:

وَهَدَيْنَاهُ النَّجْدَيْنِ

“And We showed him the two ways.”

— Al-Balad 90:10

There is a choice.

There is a path.

There is a decision.

Every decision changes the state of the self.

Therefore:

CHOICE = PROFILE UPDATE

3. WRONGDOING CAN BE ERASED THROUGH CORRECTION

A mistake does not necessarily have to become part of the final profile.

Allah says:

إِلَّا مَن تَابَ وَآمَنَ وَعَمِلَ عَمَلًا صَالِحًا فَأُولَٰئِكَ يُبَدِّلُ اللَّهُ سَيِّئَاتِهِمْ حَسَنَاتٍ

“Except those who repent, believe and perform righteous deeds; for them, Allah will replace their bad deeds with good deeds.”

— Al-Furqān 25:70

Notice the word:

يُبَدِّلُ — to replace / change

Therefore, the profile can be updated.

Bad data does not necessarily remain as the final state.

4. REPENTANCE = CORRECTING THE DATA

Repentance is not merely an utterance.

Repentance means:

recognising the mistake,

acknowledging the mistake,

changing the choice,

correcting the action.

Therefore, within our analogy:

REPENTANCE = CORRECT + UPDATE

If a mistake is already known but continues to be repeated, the old profile continues to be maintained.

If the mistake is recognised and then corrected, the profile changes.

5. FORGIVENESS = RELEASING DATA THAT WEIGHS UPON THE SELF

Human beings can hold onto:

anger,

resentment,

guilt,

regret,

fear.

If all of these continue to be preserved, they become part of the configuration of the self.

But human beings can choose to release them.

Allah says:

وَلْيَعْفُوا وَلْيَصْفَحُوا

“Let them forgive and overlook.”

— An-Nūr 24:22

Forgiveness changes the state of the qalb.

Therefore:

FORGIVENESS = RELEASING DATA THAT WEIGHS UPON THE SELF

6. KNOWLEDGE CHANGES THE PROFILE

Allah says:

هَلْ يَسْتَوِي الَّذِينَ يَعْلَمُونَ وَالَّذِينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

“Are those who know equal to those who do not know?”

— Az-Zumar 39:9

When human beings come to know something they previously did not know, their entire way of seeing something can change.

That is why Jibril carries such an important function:

TRUE DATA ENTERS → THE PROFILE CAN BE UPDATED

Truth can transform the entire system of the self.

7. TRUTH REMOVES ASSUMPTION

Assumption arises when there is insufficient data.

Certainty arises when the facts have become clear.

Allah says:

إِنَّ الظَّنَّ لَا يُغْنِي مِنَ الْحَقِّ شَيْئًا

“Indeed, assumption is of no avail against the truth.”

— Yūnus 10:36

Therefore, every time true facts are received:

assumption decreases,

certainty increases.

This is the most important process of updating.

8. REPETITION SHAPES THE PROFILE

A single action does not necessarily become an attribute.

But what is repeated will form a pattern.

If a person is constantly angry, anger becomes a habit.

If a person constantly forgives, forgiveness becomes an attribute.

If a person constantly seeks the truth, the qalb becomes accustomed to receiving facts.

Therefore:

CHOICE → REPETITION → ATTRIBUTE → PROFILE

9. THE RECORD CONTINUES TO BE UPDATED

Allah says:

مَا يَلْفِظُ مِن قَوْلٍ إِلَّا لَدَيْهِ رَقِيبٌ عَتِيدٌ

“No word does a person utter except that there is a watcher beside him, ready.”

— Qāf 50:18

And:

وَكُلَّ شَيْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَاهُ فِي إِمَامٍ مُّبِينٍ

“And everything We have enumerated in a clear record.”

— Yā-Sīn 36:12

Therefore, within our model:

LIFE = LIVE SYNC

Every change within the self enters the record.

10. AS LONG AS YOU ARE ALIVE, NEW APPS CAN STILL BE INSTALLED

Use the analogy of a phone.

As long as the phone remains active:

apps can be installed,

apps can be removed,

settings can be changed,

passwords can be changed,

files can be deleted,

the profile can be updated.

Life is the same.

Human beings still have the opportunity to:

learn,

repent,

forgive,

correct,

change their attributes.

Therefore, do not wait until the connection ends.

11. DEATH CLOSES THE UPDATE PERIOD

Allah says:

حَتَّىٰ إِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدَهُمُ الْمَوْتُ قَالَ رَبِّ ارْجِعُونِ ۝ لَعَلِّي أَعْمَلُ صَالِحًا فِيمَا تَرَكْتُ

“Until, when death comes to one of them, he says: My Lord, send me back so that I may do righteous deeds in what I left behind.”

— Al-Mu’minūn 23:99–100

Why does he want to return?

Because he wants to:

UPDATE THE PROFILE.

But by then, the period of change has already ended.

12. THE FINAL SYNC

As long as a person is alive:

THE UPDATE IS STILL RUNNING.

When death occurs:

THE FINAL SYNC TAKES PLACE.

Then the final profile becomes the state that is carried forward.

Therefore, the most important question is not:

“How long did I live?”

But:

WHAT DID I UPDATE THROUGHOUT MY LIFE?

LIFE = THE UPDATE PERIOD

Throughout life:

DATA ENTERS
↓
THE QALB PROCESSES
↓
THE HUMAN BEING CHOOSES
↓
ATTRIBUTES ARE FORMED
↓
AF‘AL ARE MANIFESTED
↓
THE RECORD IS UPDATED

And as long as the breath continues:

THE PROFILE CAN STILL CHANGE.

Therefore:

REPENTANCE = CORRECTION

KNOWLEDGE = NEW DATA

CERTAINTY = RESOLVED ASSUMPTION

FORGIVENESS = RELEASING THE BURDEN

DEEDS = PROFILE OUTPUT

LIFE = LIVE SYNC

But when death arrives:

THE UPDATE IS CLOSED.

What remains is:

THE FINAL PROFILE.

And that final profile is what will determine what becomes manifested after the old physical body is left behind.
